Congratulations Rafa! Although it was strange, and slightly unsettling, to watch a Wimbledon final that did not include Roger Federer, I was extremely happy to see Rafael Nadal cruise to victory vs Tomas Berdych.
The match was a short one, just 3 sets, so there was plenty of time for player interviews and commentary after the finish. My favorite moment was when John McEnroe asked Rafa why he always bites the trophy, obviously hoping to hear a story about luck or tradition, and a slightly confused Rafael Nadal explained that he did it once in Monte Carlo and now the photographers always ask him to do it. Ha!
The tricky thing now will be deciding who to cheer for at the US Open. Rafa has never won, so I would love to see him do it. But then I feel like it could be Andy Roddick's last chance at glory. I also worry that Roger is nearing the end of his career, so I'd like to see him win a few more before he retires... Too many players to love! What's a tennis fan to do?
